Daniel R. Shemke graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in Russian and East European Studies (with distinction and high honors) in 1986. He received his law degree from the University of Michigan (cum laude) in 1989.
Shemke began his legal career in the Ann Arbor office of the Detroit firm, Dykema Gossett. He worked in a variety of areas but focused primarily on business litigation. Shemke moved from Dykema Gossett to the Ann Arbor firm, Seeligson & Jordan, in 1993 where he broadened his practice for two years until leaving to start his own firm, Daniel R. Shemke, PC, in 1995. Since then, Shemke has developed a general law practice still primarily based in the representation of companies in deals of all kinds, transactional work, contract drafting and negotiation, and litigation. Shemke also frequently represents clients in real estate matters dealing with everything from landlord tenant law representing landlords, to residential and commercial leasing and sales transactions to construction litigation. In addition, Shemke prosecutes trademark and copyright registrations and practices family law including matters of custody, parenting time, and support.
