Margolis Law represented a young employee who left his employment as kitchen staff for a Southeast Michigan restaurant due to unpaid wages. When he and other unpaid workers arrived at the restaurant to collect their final paycheck, they were met by the restaurant owners, who were wielding bats. The restaurant owners pursued our client into the parking lot and beat him in the head with a baseball bat. The family member suffered a life-changing traumatic brain injury as a result of the incident.
We filed a civil case against the restaurant owners bringing claims including assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Since the lawsuit brought claims for intentional conduct, no insurance coverage was applicable to the incident.
Margolis Law reached a confidential six-figure settlement with the restaurant owners after the lawsuit was filed but before trial.
